With 2 days to go!

So, ONLY two days left! Then I will be officially be 27 and a home owner...And well there is still a lot to get done!

Here are some pictures from around noon today! They still need to paint the pergola and the front door, and there is still a lot of clean up that needs to happen. I am sure that it will get done! Crossing my fingers!

The landscaping looks nice, hopefully the plants don't die from all the heat we have been having...At least the HOA takes care of the landscaping so I shouldn't have to worry about that!

2 Days!!!

It is getting so close I can almost taste it! I am so excited for my new house!

Last I heard we are still planning on closing Friday, I am keeping my fingers crossed :)

It has been so hard to focus on work this week. I have a couple things that I need to do but all I want to think about is the house, and decorating, and moving and getting settled in.

Right now I am making a list of essentials that I need to have when I move in:
A New Mop
A Dust Mop (the whole downstairs is hardwoods, I have a feeling that the vacuum is not going to get all that dry wall dust off those floors)
Shelf Liners (Anyone know where I can find pretty shelf liner? The baby blue with chickens is just not my style)
Shower Curtains
Shower Rods
Hand Soap
... All fun stuff I know!

I am going to do a drive by at lunch, I'll take a picture and post it this afternoon! The landscaping looks good!

House Update - 5/25/10 - 3 Days to go...

3 Days to go and there is still a lot of work to be done...But I am confident that they will get the house complete by Friday. I went on the initial walk thought today, and the things that are left are little, paint, sanding, staining, CLEANING UP (it is a MESS). However there is a chance that we won't close on Friday. We are still waiting on the inspector to come by and give his final ok. With the flood and everything, the inspectors have been very busy and we have no word about when they will be by to give their stamp of approval.

I hope it can get done by Friday!

3 Musketeers Truffle Crisp Bars

I needed a little chocolate fix today at lunch and I picked up this....

And must say they are SO good! I would totally recommend them! They make such a great noise when you bite into them and have just a bit of extra texture. Try them!

4 Days to go...

Buying a house that is being built is a great distraction for turning 27. I know most of you think I am crazy for being caught up on the 27 number, but I feel like it is entering the "late 20's" makes me feel a little old too!

I just got word that my initial walk thoughof the house (that was suppose to be Sunday) has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 12:00 noon. I am so excited! I can't wait to see it all done and pretty!

So, there is one major appliance that doesn't come with the house...the Refrigerator! Well I guess I could have included as an upgrade to the house, but I wasn't thrilled with my options... If I am going to fork over that much money for a refrigerator, I want to really like it!

So for the past month or so the search for refrigerators has been on... Do I want a side by side, top mount, bottom mount, french door... Do I want an ice maker (YES ice maker is a must!) in the door? In the freezer? Water in the door? water inside the door? it goes on and on... oh also what color did I want it to be... Black, stainless (which isNOT fingerprint less), white, almond.... That was probably one of the easier questions to answer, Black, the rest of the appliances are black so they will match.

As for the "what kind of refrigerator do I want?" question not so easy. My parents have had a bottom freezer for years an I love it! I've had a top freezer in all the apartments I've lived in, and they are nothing special... I truly believe that side by sides are not good for bakers... it is just too hard to fit a cookie sheet in the freezer if you needed to. So I knew a side by side was out! Then there is the best of both worlds the french door bottom freezer.

So after much hemming and hawing this is what I found! I am so excited (plus I spent less on it than I would have if I went with the most basic refrigerator the builder would have supplied):

I went to Lowe's and they were AMAZING to work with I would recommend purchasing any appliance from them. And they really did have the best price around!

We Art Nashville

On Friday Casey and I went to the We Art Nashville - gallery art crawl - on Friday and had a fantastic time. I even bought some art for the new house. I am sure if you liv in Nashville you have seen the Anderson Design Group's Sprit of Nashville Posters. I got two of the limited addition Flood Relief posters.

I liked them both so much I couldn't decide which one to get, so I got them both. Also, $30 of the $35 dollars is going to Nashville Flood relief, so it is going to a good cause! Joel Anderson (the artist) was also there and I had a chance to talk to him and see which one he liked better. He said that they were both special for different reasons. The first one he said he put together in two days and the hand's are his son's hands. The 2nd one a recreation of one of the first designs they did. Both are numbered and signed.

I must have been on a Nashville poster spree the other day, because I got two other posters too! These were from Cool People Care and these posters benefit Nashville Flood Relief too...
I think these were $10 each...

I really like the Hatch Show Print poster, but I'm not ready to shell out $100 bucks for it!

I think I am going to have a little Nashville nook in my house! By they way I am so excited! I can't wait to get my house!

1 week to go!

Ok Ok I am sure that you know the count down, and you may be sick of hearing about the house, but it is one of the most exciting things that I have ever done.

One week from today I will be a home owner! AND
One week from today I will be 27 years old! (Wow that sounds kinda old doesn't it, at least I have a distraction from thinking about it :)) - However I was getting my teeth cleaned the other day and the dental hygienist asked "How old are you going to be, 23?" So that should make me happy, right?

Sunday I have my first walk through of the house. I am sure I will have a bunch more photos to post after that!

8 Days to go - And we have color, well sort of

Drum roll please...

Yep, it is cream. My least favorite of all the colors...I guess that is what I get for getting my hopes up. Oh well...Just disappointed that I didn't get a crazy color...

Actually, it isn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Hey there are some upsides.

1. I don't have to worry about it clashing with my Nebraska flag durring football season...Scarlet goes very well with cream!

2. Both of my neighbors have green houses...and really I will be seeing their house from my windows more than I will be seeing mine...

3. I can have fun with my patio furniture, flower pots...and flowers for that matter! I can liven it up a little!

4. Probably better resale value.

5. It is really on the inside that counts! I am still going to have a beautiful home even though it may not be my first choice in color.

Here are the other color of houses on my row...

H2010 - Serving Saturday - Flood Relief

Today was serving Saturday at Cross Point, where we continued our flood relief efforts. Here are some more amazing photos of what it is like in some of the hardest hit areas.

In this area, people were not able to get back into their homes until today...There were some washed out roads, and th water had receded enough.

This house was completely underwater for several days... you can see the water line on the house. Unreal.

I got to make lunch for our crew...PB&J's off the hood of my car! Don't tell - I know we are on water restriction - but I did use a bottle of water to wash my all the grape jelly off my car... I figure I was in Cheatham County so it was alright, right?

Back to work...

This house was completely untouched before we got there and got in it...Everything in the yard, we pulled out...It took us a while but we got this house down to the studs...

This was across the street from this house we were working on... Take a look at the boat... that is where it landed.

The Cumberland River....

I am so thankful that we stumbled across this neighborhood, they needed help so so badly....

Flood Relief

Today, my boss gave us the day to go out and volunteer and do some flood relief. Not only do I work at a great place, I also have an amazing boss...

I told you I'd keep you guys posted with pictures of the flood relief efforts...Here are some pictures from today...It looks like a war zone out there...

The Cross Point and Gurley Girls Crew

(You can see how high the water level got)

I am so physically and emotional exhausted...I can't seem to put what I witnessed today into words.

#othersituation2010 AKA: 2010 FLOOD

As many of you know it has been a rough couple of days here in Nashville. 18" of rain has fallen and the river is still rising. I am one of the lucky ones, yes I am with out power for the next couple of days, and yes there was a mud slide in my parking lot. But I'm still alive, and have a place to live, and my house isn't under water with out flood insurance.

This kind of flooding hasn't happened in Nashville since 1926 and before that it was in the 1880's... I have collected several photos of downtown Nashville this morning that are amazing...and not in a good way.

The power went out at my place sometime yesterday afternoon and there wasn't much to do. I decided to go take a look and see what was going on in my apartment complex and this is what I found...

A mudslide...

That turned into a bigger mudslide...

14 hours later still one big mess to be cleaned up...

Of course we did what everyone else would have done...we grabbed a beer and went and stood in the rain and watched the hill side slide...hey, there was nothing else to do...and everyone else was doing it...

I also went on a hunt to find out how we lost power...I found it...Another mudslide, this one was on the other side of the building...A tree got uprooted and fell on the power line...

NES came out around midnight and cut the tree down, and restored power to the A and B building in our complex...but the rest of the complex is with out power. Maintenance is saying that it will be three days before we get power. I guess it will be more mini camp stove cooking...

What an adventure!

All in all we are dry, safe and sound...We are so lucky that we didn't lose a thing, like so many have here in Nashville...

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has been affected by this horrible flood.
